The short answer: choose the clinic branch first

Planning a trip around a clinic appointment is different from choosing a neighborhood for sightseeing alone. The useful base is the one that reduces travel to the exact clinic branch, keeps the airport journey understandable and still gives you suitable food, transport and hotel options.

Hongdae is often the simpler airport-facing base when the confirmed clinic is in Hongdae, Yeonnam, Sinchon or the wider Mapo area. Myeongdong can be the stronger city-center base when the clinic is in Myeongdong, Euljiro, City Hall or nearby central Seoul.

Neither district is automatically better. A hotel deal is not a good deal if it creates a difficult transfer on every appointment day. This comparison covers logistics, not treatment quality, clinical suitability or outcomes.

Hongdae has the simpler airport-rail story

AREX operates an Express Train to Seoul Station and an All-Stop Train serving intermediate stations. The official airport guide lists Hongik University Station on the All-Stop route, making it practical for travelers who want a direct rail ride from Incheon Airport to the Hongdae district.

Hongik University Station also connects with Line 2 and the Gyeongui–Jungang Line. That network can be useful for appointments and ordinary sightseeing, but the station is large. Check the correct exit and the walk to the hotel instead of treating the station name as the front door.

Confirm the airline terminal, live service, payment method and hotel arrival procedure. Do not promise yourself an exact transfer time based on an old blog or a straight-line map.

Myeongdong is a central base with an extra airport transfer

Myeong-dong Station is on Line 4; nearby Euljiro 1-ga Station is on Line 2. The district does not have an AREX station, so a rail plan commonly uses Seoul Station and continues on Line 4 or another suitable local route.

The best route depends on the actual hotel entrance, luggage, current operating conditions and arrival time. Use official route information and include the internal transfer, exit and final walk in the comparison.

The Myeongdong Tourist Information Center provides multilingual visitor information. Check its current page and hours before relying on an in-person visit. Tourist assistance is separate from clinic appointment confirmation or medical interpretation.

Compare how each neighborhood fits the hours between appointments

Visit Seoul presents Hongdae as an area associated with pop and indie culture, street activity, art and nightlife. That can provide cafés, shops and evening activity close to the hotel, but the exact street matters if quiet is important. Check recent room-specific reviews and whether the room faces a nightlife street.

Visit Seoul presents Myeongdong as a major shopping and commercial district with fashion, cosmetics, food and international visitor services. The wider district can support a central-Seoul itinerary and access to both Line 4 and nearby Line 2.

These neighborhood descriptions are travel context, not a reason to select a clinic. Check the provider’s identity, official branch, direct communication and written terms separately.

Use five questions to choose the hotel

Start with the clinic’s current official address, building and floor. Multi-branch providers can use similar names in different districts. Save the Korean address, telephone number and confirmed appointment time before opening hotel comparisons.

  • Can you reach the correct building with one simple walk or transit leg?
  • Does the route require a long underground transfer or many stairs?
  • Does the hotel confirm front-desk hours, luggage storage, elevator access and late arrival?
  • Can the selected rate be changed if the clinic changes the appointment?
  • Are the room conditions and total price, including taxes and fees, shown in writing?

Count total required trips before considering a split stay

For a Hongdae clinic, a Hongdae hotel usually keeps the airport arrival and repeated local travel coherent. A Myeongdong stay can still suit central sightseeing, but it adds a cross-city journey for each Hongdae appointment.

For a Myeongdong or Euljiro clinic, staying in the wider Myeongdong area usually reduces repeated appointment travel. Seoul Station remains the airport-rail interchange rather than the final hotel stop.

If appointments occur in both districts, count every required trip. A split stay makes sense only when the travel saved outweighs a second check-out, luggage move and check-in. Confirm cancellation and baggage arrangements before dividing a reservation.

Use storage as a checked fallback, not an assumption

Seoul lists T-Luggage or storage services at Hongik University and Myeong-dong stations. These can help when hotel check-in or check-out does not match the transport schedule.

Locations, acceptance cutoffs, prices and delivery availability can change. Confirm the official service, and keep passports, valuables, essential documents and anything needed that day with you.

Pick Hongdae when the confirmed branch is in the Hongdae or Mapo area and a direct All-Stop AREX route matters most. Pick Myeongdong when the confirmed branch is in central Seoul and the Myeongdong–Euljiro area fits the itinerary. If the clinic is elsewhere, map that exact door-to-door route instead of forcing either label.
